Choosing to kill off a competition because the right people weren't winning it is horrific. I feel so bad for the kids who study so hard & now won't have the chance at recognition.

Competitions like this kept me engaged as a kid; today's kids should have that same chance.

Amidst all the stuff that happened in 2020, I just learned that was when National Geographic decided to cancel the GeoBee in the name of equity. The winners the last ten years were almost all Asian. https://www.nationalgeographic.org/education/student-experiences/geobee/

Chinese cultural power has preemptively censored Hollywood movies. It is exporting its model of technological totalitarianism to as many countries as it can. The most popular social media app among American youth is CCP spyware.

I can go on. This take is detached from reality.

There is no great power in history less capable of spreading its ideas abroad than China. Everything about it is deeply unappealing, it’s got a kind of anti-charisma.

The bipartisan freakout over its supposed “influence” in the US is clear evidence of this. It’s a punching bag.

As I've said, Beijing is on the diplomatic warpath right now. And we're just standing on the sidelines, sometimes even applauding their efforts. It's disgraceful.
